One of the first decisions in any road movement is whether to book a Full Truck Load (FTL) or share space on a part-load. The right answer depends on your volume, timeline and how delicate your cargo is.
When FTL wins
A full truck load makes sense when you have enough volume to fill a vehicle, when your cargo is fragile or high-value, or when the timeline is tight. With FTL the truck goes direct, with no transshipment — which means less handling, lower damage risk and a faster, more predictable transit.
When a part-load is smarter
For smaller consignments that aren't urgent, sharing a vehicle keeps costs down — you only pay for the space you use. The trade-off is extra handling and consolidation stops along the way, so it suits sturdy, non-time-critical goods.
The deciding factors
Weigh four things: total volume, how urgent delivery is, how sensitive the cargo is to handling, and budget. When any of the first three are high, FTL usually pays for itself.
